IFC

Scholars associated with the IFC study contemporary German literature in various intercultural contexts. Originally, research and teaching focused mainly on the works of Chamisso laureats, that is, authors who received a Chamisso Literature Award for their outstanding poetry, novels, drama in the German language acknowledging the fact that their first language was not German.

Today, research and teaching as well as the extensive school programmes of the IFC centre around intercultural literature in more general terms while maintaining the focus on Chamisso laureats. On a regular basis, authors are invited to LMU and associated partners such as the University of Bayreuth to give lectures, to conduct workshops on literary and creative writing, to work with IFC members on developing a new, dialogue-driven, approach to teaching literature as well as to participate in the many research, development and outreach activities of the IFC. The IFC also organizes literary contests for schools and individual students engaging in intercultural topics.
