Multilingualism and Textual Competence in the Context of Migration

This project examines language and textual competence of multilingual students. Connections between textual competence in German as the second language, written-language skills in the first language (“mother tongue”), remedial education and individual language biographies are examined in detail.

Basis:
Texts from 200 students (9th and 10th grade) in various school types in L1 and L2, narrative and argumentative texts
Sociolinguistic questionnaires and accompanying interviews

Linguistic Objective:
Development of an analytical grid on textual competence, correlation between language biography and writing skills

Sociopolitical Objective:
Development of basic principles for the evaluation of support measures, installation of an international network
